MEDVIA’s Innovation Director, Piet Verhoeve, was interviewed by IE-net for the latest issue of its magazine, ILYA. IE-net, which represents civil, bio- and industrial engineers in Flanders and Brussels, publishes ILYA monthly.
“There are sectors with so much in common but that work in completely different ways,” Verhoeve told the magazine. “Pharma and biotech deal with a very long ‘time to market’ and rely heavily on considerations like intellectual property. At the other end of the spectrum is digitech, which is used to experimenting in the market with continuous updates to correct bugs, where open source is often the rule and where investors don’t want wait for patents to start up or finance a business. If those two parties have to work together on healthcare, it’s problematic right from the start.”
