It’s been a busy autumn for MEDVIA member BioLizard, the data science consulting company based in Ghent. Not only did it open its first American branch, its CEO was named one of the most inspiring women working in tech in Belgium.

Liesbeth Ceelen of BioLizard  is on the InspiringFifty Belgium list for 2022 – an award recognizing the top 50 women excelling in tech careers. The list is chosen by a team from EQL:HER, an international network of female visionaries in tech. The national InspiringFifty lists put the spotlight on successful women working in the STEM sectors to provide role models and inspire the next generation of talent in tech.

Ceelen has a PhD in veterinary medicine and has an extensive background in account management, sales and business development in biotech, molecular diagnostics and life sciences recruitment. She served as the general manager at BioLizard before being appointed CEO in 2021.

Her company, meanwhile, has opened its first branch outside of Europe with an office in Durham, North Carolina. The location will allow the company – specialized in data analysis, data mining, machine learning and artificial intelligence – to offer its tailor-made services to more clients in the US. BioLizard has already established offices in Amsterdam and London.
