MEDVIA announces new members of the Board of Directors and Innovation Board

MEDVIA welcomes a new member to our Innovation Board and two new members to our Board of Directors.

The Innovation Board works with the MEDVIA team to develop strategies in helping our members to collaborate, to share knowledge on available technologies and to advise on project calls and on MEDVIA events and activities. Advice and input from the Innovation Board goes directly to the Board of Directors for approval and implementation.

Innovation Board / Byteflies / Joris Walraevens

Joris Walraevens of Byteflies replaces his former colleague Vinoy Vijayan on our Innovation Board.Walraevens leads Byteflies marketing activities and strategic partnerships. He holds a master’s degree in Engineering Sciences and a PhD in Neurosurgery and Biomechanics from KU Leuven. Joris has more than 15 years of experience in leading the development and commercialization of medical devices and remote patient monitoring solutions in both multinationals and in startups.

Board of Directors / imec / Steven Latré

Steven Latré of imec has replaced his former colleague Roger Lemmens on our Board of Directors. Steven is VP R&D Machine Learning and AI and is leading the artificial intelligence research at imec, the R&D hub for nano-electronics and digital technologies. He leads an interdisciplinary team that focuses on combining sensor and chip technology with AI to provide end-to-end solutions in sectors such as health, automotive and smart industries.

Steven also leads activities that translate imec technology to large digital transformation projects with Flemish industry. Finally he’s responsible for imec’s embedded university groups in the field of AI and social science. Next to this, he is also a part-time professor at the University of Antwerp.

Board of Directors / Comate / Stefaan Motte

Also new to our Board of Directors is Stefaan Motte, who replaces Wouter Foulon at Comate. Stefaan is CEO of Comate, a design and engineering company translating innovative ideas into successful hardware products in healthcare, ranging from neurostimulation implants and wearables to complex health tech lab devices).

Prior to joining Comate in 2022, Stefaan served 12 years with Materialise as Vice President and member of the executive committee. He was general manager of the Materialise global clinical business unit, delivering personalized orthopedic and cranio-maxillofacial solutions (implants, surgical guides, 3D planning services) to medical device companies, hospitals and surgeons worldwide.

Following this, Stefaan became the general manager of the global software business unit, delivering the leading software that drives 3D printing production environments in industrial and medical applications. In 2017 Stefaan was appointed Fellow of the Faculty of Science at KU Leuven.
