Gent – De nieuwe Vlaamse Regering is vastbesloten om de positie van Vlaanderen als Europese koploper op het vlak van innovatie te versterken en zelfs door te stoten naar de wereldtop. De overheidsinvesteringen in innovatie worden opgetrokken tot 1% en samen met het bedrijfsleven dienen de gezamenlijke investeringen in O&O tot 5% van het bruto binnenlands product te stijgen.

MEDVIA ondersteunt de ambitie voor innovatie zoals opgenomen in het nieuwe regeerakkoord. Innovatie is dé motor voor duurzame economische groei en een hogere productiviteit van de Vlaamse industrie. Gedreven door geopolitieke en maatschappelijke dienen we voluit in te zetten op veelbelovende innovatieve ontwikkelingen, zoals duurzame energie, duurzame mobiliteit, biotechnologie en medische technologieën.

De doelstellingen die opgenomen zijn in het regeerakkoord sluiten nauw aan bij de activiteiten die MEDVIA van bij de start in 2022 heeft uitgerold: missiegericht, bottom-up en bedrijfsgedreven werking, ondersteuning van pioniers en kmo’s en inzetten op internationalisering.

Dat laatste gebeurt in nauwe samenwerking met Flanders Investment & Trade. We sloten reeds met zo’n 25 Europese clusters uit een 20-tal landen samenwerkingen waardoor de HealthTech Investor Summit slechts op twee jaar tijd kon uitgroeien tot het paradepaardje van het Europese HealthTech ecosysteem.

Samen sterk

Ondertussen is ook aangetoond dat clusters een belangrijke hefboom voor innovatie betekenen. Bedrijven die lid zijn van een clusterorganisatie realiseren ook een hogere toegevoegde waarde en productiviteit realiseren dan het sectorgemiddelde.

De afgelopen jaren hebben de zes Vlaamse speerpuntclusters (MEDVIA, Catalisti, De Blauwe Cluster, Flanders’ FOOD, Flux50 en VIL) overtuigend bewezen dat ze als neutrale partners bedrijven, kennisinstellingen, burgers en overheden met elkaar verbinden om via innovatie een maximale economische en maatschappelijke meerwaarde te creëren in Vlaanderen.

De speerpuntclusters zijn dan ook vastberaden om samen hun rol verder te versterken en vinden in de Vlaamse Overheid een sterke partner om de bedrijfsgedreven maatschappelijke en socio-economische impact te vergroten.

Gezien de noodzaak om de grote transities (energie, voedsel, mobiliteit, klimaat, gezondheid, etc.) te versnellen, zal systeeminnovatie als nieuwe leidraad worden ontwikkeld.

Administratieve vereenvoudiging moet er ook toe leiden dat bedrijven gemakkelijker toegang krijgen tot innovaties en dat middelen voor innovatie gerichter worden ingezet. De Vlaamse speerpuntclusters reiken de hand aan nieuw voogdijminister Matthias  Diependaele om samen de komende vijf jaar de concurrentiepositie van de Vlaamse ondernemers te vrijwaren en versterken door middel van innovatie.

The new Flemish government is increasing investment in innovation

Ghent – The new Flemish government is determined to strengthen Flanders’ position as a European leader in innovation and to push towards leadership on a global scale. Public investments in innovation will be increased to 1%, and – together with the private sector – total investments in R&D will rise to 5% of the gross domestic product.

MEDVIA supports the ambition for innovation as outlined in the new coalition agreement. Innovation is the driving force for sustainable economic growth and higher productivity in the Flemish industry. Driven by geopolitical and societal challenges, we must fully commit to promising innovative developments, such as sustainable energy, sustainable mobility, biotechnology and medical technologies.

The objectives set forth in the coalition agreement align closely with the activities that MEDVIA has rolled out since its inception in 2022: mission-driven, bottom-up and business-driven initiatives, support for pioneers and SMEs and a focus on internationalization. This last ambition is carried out in close collaboration with FIT.

We have already established partnerships with some 25 European clusters from 20 countries, enabling the HealthTech Investor Summit to grow into the flagship event of the European healthtech ecosystem in just two years.

Stronger together 

It has also been shown that clusters are a crucial lever for innovation. Companies that are members of a cluster organization achieve higher added value and productivity compared to the sectoral average. In recent years, the six Flemish spearhead clusters (Catalisti, De Blauwe Cluster, Flanders’ Food, Flux50, MEDVIA, and Vil) have convincingly proven that they connect companies, research institutions, citizens and governments as neutral partners to create maximum economic and societal value in Flanders through innovation.

The spearhead clusters are therefore determined to further develop their role together and consider the Flemish government a strong partner to enhance the business-driven societal and socio-economic impact. Given the need to accelerate major transitions (energy, food, mobility, climate, health, etc), the clusters see system innovation as a new guiding principle.

Administrative simplification should also make it easier for companies to access innovations and ensure that resources for innovation are deployed more effectively. The Flemish spearhead clusters extend a hand to Flanders’ new innovation minister – and minister-president – Matthias Diependaele to safeguard and strengthen the competitive position of Flemish entrepreneurs through innovation over the next five years.
